Line Game, simple, smooth, fun!

Dallas| March 2, 2007 12:45 pm

linegame.pngHere’s a nice little time waster… The design is simple, yet it’s amazing how smooth it runs. You play as a line, trying to find your way through a maze of moving objects… As you move the mouse, the line follows your cursor and leaves a short trail behind itself. There are about 8 levels to keep you entertained for a short time, of which I was able to complete all but one. I especially like the physics behind how the trail narrows out the faster you go, and also gets distorted if you go through a bubble. The only thing this game needs now is a level editor!

Cool game with atmosphere: Knytt

Dallas| December 1, 2006 11:13 am

knytt.pngFrom the creator of Within A Deep Forest (Previously reviewed and recommended here) comes a new game called Knytt. (The download links there don’t work yet… Visit here to download Knytt RC3) Nicklas Nygren (Aka Nifflas) is the creator of this simple yet addictive game, which has you, as a creature called a Knytt, wandering around a very expansive game world looking for parts of an alien spacecraft.

The storyline is simple: You are Barn, a Knytt who has been abducted by a UFO. This UFO is damaged while in flight, and crash-lands on an alien world. The pieces of the UFO are scattered about the landscape, and in exchange for your safe passage home you must locate and bring back all of the pieces of the UFO.

The controls in Knytt are simple… ’s’ to jump, left and right to move. Nothing to it. You have the capability to cling to walls, and “wall jump” your way up. You can also press ‘a’ to get a glowing pointer that directs you to the next piece of the UFO.
That’s where the simplicity ends. The game world for Knytt is incredibly huge, even compared to Within a Deep Forest. You may find yourself wandering for hours to find your way to a well hidden piece of the UFO. None of the puzzles are complicated, but that doesn’t mean you’ll finish this game in minutes. The one thing that sets Knytt apart from other games is the atmosphere. The visuals, although very simple, are nicely designed and easy on the eye. The atmospheric sounds and periodic music fits the landscape very well. You will also see plenty of alien creatures going about their business: They offer no point of interaction, however they are fun to watch to see what they will do.

There are a few secrets in Knytt… And I must say they are very difficult to find. If you haven’t received the ability to jump high, or to run fast, you haven’t found all the secrets yet. If you haven’t seen the Das Magdenburska Martian Deathray Pantzer Crawler (You’ll know it when you see it) you haven’t found all the secrets yet!

If you’d like to get some hints, visit Nifflas’ Game Forum, and discuss the game and it’s secrets with the users there.

I highly recommend you try this game, although it’s currently on Release Candidate 3, it feels like a very solid and complete title. (Oh, and it’s completely free! Enjoy!)

Fun Little Time Waster: Sling!

Dallas| September 26, 2006 10:17 am

sling.jpgIt’s been a while since I’ve posted a time waster, so here’s a new one for your gaming enjoyment.

Sling is a simple game. You are a piece of goo, with one hand. You can drag your body, and then let go to fire yourself off in whichever direction is appropriate to reach the next “grab”. The object of most levels is to make your way to each of the white grabs, turning them green in the process. The game starts out easy, but quickly progresses to a more difficult game, as you navigate your way around obstacles, and try not to fall off the bottom of the screen. Some levels contain monsters that you must destroy, but I won’t tell you how! (It’s easy, don’t worry!) Every five levels you must pass a boss level to continue, after which a cut scene will play as a kind of reward. The graphics are amazing, the physics work well, and the sounds are very good. Turn your speakers on to hear the professor rambling on in the cut scenes!

Within a Deep Forest

Dallas| June 22, 2006 7:56 pm

Here’s another nice time waster… This game is fairly simple… You’re a ball. Actually, you can be different balls, once you EARN them. You hold down the ’s’ key to bounce your ball higher. The levels are incredibly addicting, however the game seems a little short. Let me know what you think of it! This game is download only. The author claims to be working on the next version of the game, which will feature less balls (but more exotic materials), longer levels, and more of a story. I can’t wait!

Metanet’s N: Be the Ninja!

Dallas| 7:46 pm

This game is AMAZING… well worth every penny (It’s free)! It’s kind of like the old game lode-runner, but with physics! You can wall jump, wall slide, and… well, that’s about it, but it’s incredibly addicting! The game physics are so fun, you’ll want to beat all 500 levels in the original game! (Good luck with that…) Once you finish (or get tired of) the included levels, you can download user created levels and give them a try! There is no end to the madness. You will find yourself screaming at your computer as you do some levels over and over, because you JUST ABOUT made it!

Addicting Little time waster!

Dallas| 5:19 pm

This game is surprisingly addicting! Give it a shot… There’s 30 levels, and once you’ve finished a level, you can go back to it anytime, even if you close the browser! The mechanics are a little different… You use the mouse to “grab” the playing field and rotate it… As it tilts back and forth, the Roly Poly creature moves around… Your goal is to get him to the finish line in each level!
